The economy will not rebound quickly even when the drought ends. It will take several years for production and exports to recover, even partially. Proposed land reform aimed at white commercial farmers will make agricultural recovery all the more difficult.

[En Bulgarie] l'agriculture représentait traditionnellement entre 11% et 13% du PIB [produit intérieur brut]. Il s'agit du seul secteur dont la valeur ajoutée brute a augmenté de 30% environ après la crise de 1996-1997. Par conséquent, sa part du PIB est passée à quelque 26% en 1997. La reprise agricole est essentiellement imputable à une bonne récolte céréalière, même si l'élévage a montré certains signes de stabilisation.
