Plagioclasa sódica de la serie de las plagioclasas. Cristaliza en el sistema triclínico. Incoloro o blanco, de brillo vítreo, ligero y duro.

La albita forma masas laminares exfoliables o bien cristales que son generalmente translúcidos o transparentes, aunque también los hay opacos; esos cristales, cuya simetría es triclínica, se presentan con frecuencia en forma de maclas; al ser fundidos dan un vidrio que es inatacable por los ácidos.
