À l'égard des substances du Groupe I, le Canada et l'Ontario s'entendent sur la recherche, d'ici l'an 2000, d'une réduction de 90 % de l'utilisation, de la génération et du rejet des sept substances restantes : le benzo(a)pyrène, l'hexachlorobenzène, l'alkylplomb, le mercure, l'octachlorostyrène, le PCDD (dioxines) et le PCDF (furanes).
