The Arctic Contaminants Program is involved in a wide variety of contaminants related research in the Arctic, including fish and marine mammal studies. The Contaminants program operates a number of well-equipped analytical labs at the Freshwater Institute and has the technical capabilities to identify and measure heavy metals and natural and synthetic organic compounds, including chlorinated hydrocarbons, radionuclides, and petroleum and combustion-related hydrocarbons.

Le Programme des contaminants de l'Arctique s'intéresse à une large gramme de travaux de recherche sur les contaminants de l'Arctique, notamment les études sur les poissons et les mammifères marins. Ses responsables exploitent un certain nombre de laboratoires d'analyse bien équipés à l'Institut des eaux douces et ils possèdent les capacités techniques pour identifier et doser les métaux lourds ainsi que les composés organiques naturels et de synthèse, notamment les hydrocarbures chlorés, les radionucléides de même que les hydrocarbures pétroliers et les imbrûlés.
