Since "aromatic" means "having a distinctive pleasing odor", the term "aromatic odour" appears questionable to us. It is not the odour that is "aromatic", but the product possessing the pleasing odour.

On voit par la définition qui précède que l'expression "odeur aromatique" est douteuse : on ne peut dire, en effet, d'une odeur, qu'elle exhale une odeur (...). Il voudrait mieux parler d'un produit aromatique ou d'une odeur agréable, le premier produisant la seconde.
