The purpose of this Act is to extend the present laws of Canada to provide a right of access to information in records under the control of a government institution in accordance with the principles that government information should be available to the public, that necessary exceptions to the right of access should be limited and specific and that decisions on the disclosure of government information should be reviewed independently of government.

The Association of Translators and Interpreters of Alberta (ATIA) is the only association of certified translators and interpreters in the province of Alberta. Founded in 1979, ATIA certifies translators and interpreters by facilitating national examinations as a provincial member of the Canadian Translators, Terminologists and Interpreters Council (CTTIC).

... it was decided on June 16, 1979 to form an association called the Alberta Association of Translators (AAT) ... the name of the Association was changed to the Alberta Association of Translators and Interpreters (AATI) ... on September 8th, 1984. ... the name of the association [is now] the Association of Translators and Interpreters of Alberta/Association des traducteurs et interprètes de l'Alberta (ATIA), as approved at the Regular General Meeting held on February 25th, 1989.
