Le parallélisme entre le statut du nom commun et celui du nom autonyme n'est pas entièrement satisfait. Sémantiquement l'autonyme est bien un nom commun, mais syntaxiquement il se conduit plutôt comme un nom propre. Les deux n'expriment pas le singulier sans article. L'autonyme est constamment masculin et a des traits propres grapho-phoniques, qui sont le double système facultatif de la liaison ordinaire ou de la non-liaison.
