A small fan installed underground for ventilating narrow coal drivages or hard headings which are not ventilated by the normal air current.

OBS

An auxiliary fan is usually from 18 inches to 2 feet in diameter, and delivers up to 10,000 cubic feet per minute, or more. It is driven by compressed air or electricity. In the latter case, the motor is placed in the intake airway.

OBS

A booster fan is installed when other means of improving the ventilation would be very costly, or too slow or perhaps ineffective. A ventilation survey is a legal obligation in Great Britain before installing a booster fan.
