Les limites pour les déchets acceptés dans un centre de surface ont été fixées par les autorités réglementaires, le Service central de sûreté des installations nucléaires (SCSIN) du Ministère qui a la responsabilité de l'industrie, à : - 0,01 Ci [alpha] (370 MBq) par tonne pour l'activité massique moyenne en émetteurs alpha de l'ensemble des colis de déchets contenus dans le stockage calculée à l'issue de la phase de surveillance; - 0,1 Ci [alpha] (3,7 GBq) par tonne pour l'activité massique maximale par colis de déchets, en règle générale, et en aucun cas plus de 0,5 Ci par tonne (18,5 GBq). 1, record 1, French, - activit%C3%A9%20massique%20moyenne

Le terme «activité spécifique» est très répandu dans l'usage. On le retrouve, entre autres, dans le LAROG, 1982, vol. 1, page 97 (Grand Dictionnaire encyclopédique Larousse), dans AUTEC et dans les Techniques de l'ingénieur (vol. B8-II, page B-3600-9). Cependant son emploi fait l'objet de critiques, notamment de la source ENUCL, et l'ISO et la CEI recommandent l'emploi de «activité massique».
