Título de crédito mediante el cual un armador reconoce haber recibido para transportar ciertas mercancías a través del mar y se compromete a entregarlas al verdadero poseedor del documento cuando la embarcación llegue a su destino. Dicho conocimiento se hace con tres originales y tantas copias como sean necesarias. Puede ser firmado por el capitán, pero hoy día lo hace el agente marítimo.
