A locomotive powered by battery cells and approved for use in mines. It weighs around 12-14 tons and operates at maximum efficiency on level or near level haulage roads. If the locomotive operates on a two-shift basis, three batteries are necessary, as recharging takes about 8 hours. The battery, usually of the lead-acid type, has a life of about 4/5 years.

Locomotives électriques à accumulateurs. La plupart des locomotives électriques à accumulateurs [...] sont construites pour une durée de service d'un poste de travail; toutefois quelques-unes peuvent être de dimensions suffisantes pour prévoir une batterie d'accumulateurs de surplus, ce qui permet le service de deux postes. Ces locomotives écartent les dangers que comporte la transmission du courant par trolley. En outre, elles permettent de suivre les avancements de tous les travaux souterrains accessibles au roulage mécanique sans aucune installation spéciale. Elles n'offrent aucun risque de chocs électriques extérieurs et ne dégagent aucun gaz toxique.
