Cristal qui possède deux axes optiques perpendiculaires aux deux sections cycliques.

CONT

Certains cristaux, comme ceux de sulfate de magnésium, sulfate de potassium, sulfate de fer, donnent aussi deux images réfractées d'un seul point, mais par rotation du cristal, on voit qu'il existe non plus une seule mais deux positions privilégiées pour lesquelles on n'observe plus qu'un seul point. Ces cristaux sont dit biaxes.
