Le Centre latino-américain de périnatalogie à Montevideo, Uruguay, a mis au point une chaise d'accouchement conçue pour encourager une mise au monde physiologiquement plus favorable puisque la position assise est la condition "naturelle" pour les naissances normales. Cette chaise donne à la femme la possibilité d'accoucher assise, soit dans une position qui avec des angles de 45 degrés à 60 degrés, permet d'exercer une meilleure poussée sur les muscles pelviens.
