Algue de la famille des Laminariaceae. Les appellations «goémon» ou «varech» sont largement utilisées pour désigner l'ensemble des algues récoltées sur le littoral (extraction de l'iode, engrais). Cet ensemble est constitué d'un mélange comprenant majoritairement (90 %) les algues des genres Fucus et Laminaria.
