Plusieurs termes peuvent être utilisés pour désigner la concentration d'une substance dans le sang : tenir compte du contexte pour savoir s'il s'agit du dosage proprement dit ou de la concentration de la substance dosée dans le liquide correspondant. Trois solutions: 1) traduction littérale; 2) mettre en titre l'un des termes «ionogramme sanguin» ou «bilan ionique», puis énumérer les substances et préciser leur concentration sans adjectif qualificatif; 3) avoir recours au terme spécifique (ex. : uricémie) suivi de la concentration. Utiliser un terme plus simple quand on s'adresse au profane (ex. : taux sanguin de cholestérol).
