Piping is a naval method of passing orders and information. Orders using a Boatswain Call are known as pipes. The use of the Boatswain's Call can be traced back to the yerar 1248 during the days of the Crusades in England ... Today the Boatswain's Call and chain are the badge of office of the Chief Boatswain's Mate and the Boatswain's Mate.
