Tubes formed artificially between the lamellae of the cornea in the process of injection.

Air ... patent blue ... Berlin blue ... Berlin blue and air ... and Berlin blue and Mercox ... were injected into the corneas and conjunctivas of 150 enucleated cattle eyes. Using air for injection, so-called Bowman "corneal tubes" form in the cornea, which can easily be filled with pigment (patent blue, Berlin blue). In some cases ... the conjunctival lymphatics were filled with air during injection into the cornea.

Les tubes membranaires sont des structures dynamiques communément observées dans les cellules vivantes. Ils constituent des passages pour les molécules, interconnectant les organites et même les cellules. De telles structures ont d'ailleurs été reproduites in vitro avec des vésicules géantes, petits ballons constitués simplement d'une bicouche lipidique comme les membranes cellulaires. Les tubes membranaires sont aussi impliqués dans la réponse inflammatoire, permettant aux leucocytes et aux plaquettes transportés par le flux sanguin de ralentir et s'arrêter en s'accrochant sur les parois des vaisseaux.
