Abattage à front en chantier. La méthode utilisée dans l'exploitation d'un gisement relativement peu épais (12" au plus) et de faible inclinaison consiste à perforer comme dans les galeries et à faire exploser avec front d'attaque en avancement continu. Selon l'épaisseur du gisement, il peut y avoir plusieurs fronts d'attaque simultanés disposés en gradins («benches») offrant deux faces ouvertes, ce qui facilite la fragmentation des terrains.
