On fabriquait du verre à Bristol dès la fin du XVIIe siècle. Le manufacturier, Jacob Little, fabriquait du verre blanc opaque. Le fameux "verre émaillé" fut fabriqué ailleurs mais il n'atteignit jamais la même qualité que celui de Bristol; il est d'un blanc opaque et comme la porcelaine il est peint avec des émaux imitant l'art chinois.
