The Biodiversity Stewardship in Resource Industries (BSRI) is a voluntary initiative with a foundation rooted in science-based knowledge. In its present state the BSRI is made up of a working group of Government of Canada departments, industry associations and environmental organizations. Though still in its formative stages, the BSRI initiative exemplifies a voluntary, non-regulatory approach to stewardship by engaging resource sectors and conservation organisations in partnerships for biodiversity conservation.
