La compagnie de l'Ohio, fondée par les Anglais, colonisa le pays et parvint à éliminer les Français (1763, traité de Paris). La région fut cédée aux États-Unis en 1783 et une période de lutte contre les Indiens s'acheva par le traité de Grenville (1795).
