La manchette est presque toujours utilisée pour faire le premier contact : sur réception de service, sur récupération de balle facile ou encore sur récupération d'attaque. [...] Quoique défensif, ce geste technique est la base de l'efficacité offensive d'une équipe parce que le ballon frappé en manchette doit être orienté et bien dirigé vers le passeur placé près du filet.
