Africa is at the centre of Canada's cooperation agenda. Through the $500-million Canada Fund for Africa, Canada has taken a leadership role in responding to the first made-in-Africa vision for development, the New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD), and the corresponding priorities of the G8 Africa Action Plan. Canada was the first G8 country to establish a fund specifically designed for these purposes. The Canada Fund for Africa initiatives are large-scale programs which are regional in scope, complementing ongoing CIDA [Canadian International Development Agency] programming in Africa.

Grâce au Fonds canadien pour l'Afrique, doté d'un budget de 500 millions de dollars, le Canada assume un rôle de premier plan dans la réponse à la première vision d'avenir sur le développement de l'Afrique entièrement conçue sur ce continent, le Nouveau partenariat pour le développement de l'Afrique (NEPAD) et dans les priorités correspondantes du Plan d'action du G8 pour l'Afrique. Le Canada a été le premier pays du G8 à mettre sur pied un fonds voué à l'atteinte de ces objectifs. Le Fonds canadien pour l'Afrique finance des programmes à grande échelle d'envergure régionale qui complètent la programmation courante de l'ACDI [Agence canadienne de développement international] en Afrique.
