The Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) with the Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development, acts directly in eight of the nine Cree communities in Quebec, and also in the Naskapi community of Kawawachikamach, through its on-reserve housing program. The Inuit housing program, for its part, is administered by the Société d'habitation du Québec (SHQ) under the Canada-Quebec Social Housing Agreement.
