The Canadian Oncology Societies was founded in 1976 when several oncologists joined together with a common interest. Over its 20 year history, the mandate of the Canadian Oncology Societies has evolved, particularly in view of the development of several new oncological specialties associations such as the Canadian Association of Medical Oncologists and the Canadian Society of Surgical Oncologists to name a few. With the various discipline-related mandates of the oncological subspecialties, the Canadian Oncology Societies has become a federation of oncological societies with a common voice in Oncology. The goals and objectives of the society were reviewed and the following issues were agreed upon and subsequently implemented by the membership.
