Cette activité culturelle et sportive attire quelque 1 200 spectateurs venus de tous les villages algonquins. La tradition veut qu'on y élise une princesse. Le rivage du Lac-Simon, appelé «Cicip Sakikan» par les anciens, est le site de grands moments lors des courses et des rencontres familiales qui s'y déroulent.
