Carbon monoxide detectors are small devices designed to continually monitor the carbon monoxide concentration in the surrounding air. They emit an alarm signal when the level of carbon monoxide is high enough to pose a major health risk and poison human beings.

Le fonctionnement des détecteurs de monoxyde de carbone est simple puisqu’ils opèrent par électrochimie : une solution chimique réagit au contact du monoxyde de carbone dès qu’un seuil critique a été franchi. Cette réaction chimique va provoquer le passage d'un courant électrique qui déclenche une alarme.
