Molecular karyohypses for eight-strains of four Chlorella species were obtained by using an alternating-field gel elechrophoresis system which employs contour-clamped homogeneous electric field (CHEF). The number and pattern of the chromosomal DNA molecules varied greatly from strain to strain.

La technique CHEF utilise des champs alternatifs strictement homogènes et orientés à 90° ou 120°. C'est cette dernière configuration qui donne les meilleurs résultats d'homogénéité des champs, l'angle de réorientation de 120° et la disposition des électrodes par rapport au gel entraînent des trajectoires de migration droites et permettent des comparaisons précises des divers échantillons.
