Champs alternés homogènes fixés (CHEF : contour clamped homogeneous electric fields). Cette technique a été utilisée pour la détermination de la taille des méga-YAC ayant servi à la cartographie physique du génome humain (voir encadré). 24 à 36 électrodes ponctuelles sont distribuées autour d'un périmètre hexagonal et sont activées de manière à obtenir deux champs homogènes séparés par un angle de 120°, un potentiel prédéterminé étant fixé à chaque électrode.
