Chemical protective footwear is also available. Chemicals and solvents can corrode the soles, stitching and leather uppers of standard safety shoes or boots. Those working with hazardous materials should wear protective footwear with rubber (neoprene), vinyl, or plastic (polyurethane) uppers, synthetic stitching and synthetic rubber, neoprene or cork soles.
