La arquitectura de un microcircuito se compone de una unidad aritmética (UAL), los registros de uso general y la estructura del canal de control; la cual depende hasta cierto punto del posicionamiento del procesador y de la memoria en uno o más microcircuitos, del número de conectores que existe en cada microcircuito, de su tamaño, de la memoria fuera del mismo y de la estructura del canal de entrada/salida. La velocidad o rendimiento depende en gran parte de la arquitectura.
