Les poignées chronobarométriques sont destinées à provoquer l'ouverture automatique d'un parachute après un temps de chute libre et à une altitude pré-déterminée. Les réglages sont 2 ou 5 secondes pour le retard chronométrique et 616 mb (4000 m) pour la capsule anéroïde. Le corps de poignée contient le mécanisme de déclenchement (minuterie - capsule anéroïde). Le déclenchement automatique du système d'ouverture s'effectue par l'extraction d'une bille de verrouillage fixée à l'extrémité d'une drisse.
