Élément d'arrimage employé entre autres en transport ferroviaire afin de retenir fermement les deux extrémités d'un feuillard. Il se présente sous la forme d'une plaque en acier dotée d'un couloir à l'intérieur duquel pénètrent les extrémités du feuillard. Celui-ci est ensuite comprimé par sertissage du cachet.

Bien que "seal" a déjà été traduit par "chape" dans le Vocab 60 des services linguistiques du Canadien National, on lui préfère maintenant "cachet". On retrouve le terme "cachet" et son illustration à l'article A1034, page 5, des Techniques de l'ingénieur, sur le cerclage.
