The Co-operatives Secretariat was established in 1987 to help the federal government respond more effectively to the concerns and needs of co-operatives. The Secretariat advises the government on policies affecting co-operatives, co-ordinates the implementation of such policies, and promotes co-operatives within the federal government. Le Secrétariat aux coopératives a été créé en 1987 en vue d'aider le gouvernement fédéral à répondre plus efficacement aux préoccupations et aux besoins des coopératives. Le Secrétariat a pour mandat de conseiller le gouvernement sur les politiques qui influent sur les coopératives, de coordonner la mise en application de ces politiques et de promouvoir les coopératives au sein de l'administration fédérale.
