A vessel, other than a rescue unit, designated to co-ordinate surface search and rescue operations within a specified search area.

CONT

Where an OSC [on-scene co-ordinator] or CSS [co-ordinator surface search] has been designated, the OSC/CSS shall be responsible for the following tasks to the extent they have not been performed by the responsible RCC [Rescue Co-ordination Centre]/MRSC [Maritime Rescue Sub-Centre]: Carry out the plan for the conduct of the operations as requested by the RCC/MRSC. Modify the plan as facilities and on-scene conditions dictate and inform the RCC/MRSC of any such modifications. Monitor weather and sea conditions and report on these at regular intervals to the RCC/MRSC. Maintain communications with the RCC/MRSC and the SAR [Search and Rescue] units on the scene. Maintain a detailed record of the operation ... Issue regular situation reports to the RCC/MRSC ... Advise RCC/MRSC to release units when their assistance is no longer required.

Une fois l'OSC [coordonnateur sur les lieux] /CSS [coordonnateur de recherche en surface] désigné, ce dernier devra voir aux tâches suivantes, dans la mesure où elles n'auront pas déjà été effectuées par le RCC [centre de coordination des opérations de sauvetage]/MRSC [centre secondaire de sauvetage maritime] responsable de l'opération : Mener l'opération SAR [recherche et sauvetage] conformément au plan établi par le RCC/MRSC. Modifier le plan en fonction des moyens, de l'équipement et des conditions, et en informer le RCC/MRSC rapidement. Surveiller les conditions météorologiques et l'état de la mer, et en faire rapport régulièrement au RCC/MRCS. Maintenir la communication avec le RCC/MRSC et les unités SAR participant à l'opération. Maintenir un journal détaillé de l'opération. [...] Transmettre au RCC/MRSC de fréquents rapports de situation. [...] Aviser le RCC/MRSC de libérer les unités au fur et à mesure que leur assistance n'est plus requise.
