Necrosis of a portion of some organ or tissue, with the formation of fibrous infarcts, in which a relatively small part seems to have been deprived of the afflux of blood by the plugging of its vessels with coagula.

Infarction: An area of coagulation necrosis in a tissue due to local ischemia resulting from obstruction of circulation to the area, most commonly by a thrombus or embolus.

Tipo de necrosis en el que las células o los tejidos afectados se convierten en una masa eosinófila seca, opaca y bastante homogénea sin coloración nuclear, debido a la coagulación de proteínas, como la que se produce en un infarto; desde el punto de vista microscópico, el proceso necrótico afecta principalmente a las células, y pueden reconocerse restos de elementos histológicos, como elastina, colágeno y fibras musculares, así como "fantasmas" de células y partes de membranas celulares; puede ser causada por calor, formaldehído, fenol, cloruro mercúrico y otros agentes que destruyen instantáneamente los procesos vitales del tejido, incluso las enzimas que continuarían alterando la substancia celular desvitalizada.
