Coating of particleboard products involves surface finishing of the panel to enhance its appearance for certain applications or to provide it with a protective cover. Most finishes applied accomplish both beautification and protection to varying degrees.

OBS

The quality of surface appearance in finished panels is significantly enhanced by substrate smoothness. In practically all types of particleboard, inter-particle voids and surface imperfections necessitate the use of fillers to attain the desired degree of smoothness .... Fillers in current use are basically specialized paints containing pigments, vehicle, solvents, driers, and additives .... The pigments used in fillers consist of one or more of a number of materials, e.g., gypsum, silica, talc, clay, calcite, and barytes.
