Les compacts numériques [...] sont pour la plupart nettement moins encombrants que leurs homologues 24 x 36, ne serait-ce qu'en raison de l'absence de logement pour la pellicule. Et les plus petits ne pèsent que 150 grammes, batterie incluse, soit à peine plus qu'un téléphone portable. Mais ce qui explique sans doute plus encore leur succès fulgurant, c'est la sensation d'instantanéité qu'ils procurent. Dès qu'une photo est prise, on peut la voir sur l'écran [à cristaux liquides] de l'appareil et la refaire en cas d'échec [...] Les compacts numériques sont également simples à utiliser. Tous disposent d'un mode automatique. On vise, on déclenche, et c'est tout.
