Ayant mis au point une solution technique originale pour l'injection assistée par air comprimé (L'IAPAC), l'IFP a suivi une stratégie différente de celle d'Orbital [...] Dans le système IAPAC, l'air comprimé à 0,5 bar est prélevé directement dans le «carter-pompe» pendant la phase de pré-compression. Cet air comprimé alimente un injecteur pneumatique, composé d'une soupape d'environ vingt millimètres de diamètre commandée par un arbre à came, et sert à pulvériser en un temps très court le carburant en gouttelettes extrêmement fines aussitôt vaporisées. L'ouverture de la soupape se produit peu avant la fermeture de l'échappement, minimisant ainsi les pertes de carburant dans l'atmosphère.
