Detailed studies of conjugate margins, margins which were juxtaposed prior to rifting, have yet to be made. However, it is instructive to compare the first order proprieties of margins now on opposite sides of the ocean basins.

Le terme «marges conjuguées» a été proposé sur le modèle de «failles conjuguées» [LAROG, 1982, vol. 3, p. 2520] et par extension du sens de «conjugué».

OBS

On pourrait définir des marges conjuguées comme un couple de marges opposées (de chaque côté d'un rift, par exemple), accolées à l'origine et produites par le même événement tectonique, qui se retrouvent aujourd'hui de part et d'autre d'un océan à la suite de l'expansion des fonds océaniques.
