The model recognizes two phases of dispersion: convective particle descent (the discharged dredged material settles as a sinking jet), and dynamic collapse (dispersal of initial energy causes the plume to extend and diffusion is no longer governed by the intrinsic settling velocity of the particles and hydrodynamic conditions).
