The clothoid is defined as the curve whose curvature is equal to its length. That is, the further the curve, the more curved it is. Such a curve is necessarily a spiral.

La clothoïde est une courbe utilisée sur les routes et les voies de chemin de fer pour raccorder une droite à un cercle. Cette courbe est plus connue sous la dénomination «spirale de Cornu». C'est la trajectoire suivie par une voiture qui roule à vitesse constante V et dont le conducteur tourne le volant à une vitesse aussi constante.
