Coronal vertical clefts seen in vertebral bodies of neonates due to failure of fusion of two ossification centres. They disappear during the first few weeks of life and are of no significance except that they tend to be associated with skeletal dysplasias. [From TEXRA, 1975, p. 9.]

Les fentes coronales rachidiennes constituent une anomalie d'un type particulier; souvent transitoires, observées au niveau du rachis lombaire dans la période néo-natale et chez le tout jeune nourrisson, elles apparaissent sur les clichés de profil sous la forme d'une bande radio-transparente barrant verticalement la partie moyenne d'un ou plusieurs corps vertébraux lombaires.
