En 1296, tras las Guerras de Independencia, el rey Eduardo I de Inglaterra se llevó la Piedra de Escocia junto con otras insignias reales. Alrededor de 1300 hizo construir e instalar una silla en la Abadía de Westminster en Londres, diseñada para sostener el bloque de arenisca.
