Situation d'un opérateur en position acheteur ou vendeur sur une marchandise ou un instrument financier, qui s'est assuré une couverture suffisante du risque assumé sur le marché au comptant ou sur le marché à terme, selon le cas, en prenant une position symétrique sur le marché à terme ou sur le marché au comptant. Par exemple, le débiteur d'une créance en devise qui prend une position acheteur dans un contrat de change à terme portant sur la même devise, de même que le vendeur d'une option d'achat qui possède simultanément les marchandises ou instruments financiers sous-jacents, sont tous deux en position couverte.
