The Cumulative Impact Monitoring Program (CIMP) has been developed by the NWT [Northwest Territories] CIMP Working Group, which is a partnership among NWT Aboriginal governments, the Government of Canada, and the Government of the Northwest Territories. Full implementation of the NWT CIMP is anticipated to begin in 2009. The monitoring program will: encourage community-based monitoring and community capacity-building; provide resources to fill the gaps in current monitoring activities; report on the health of the environment, which includes biophysical, social and economic components; help with better decision-making to protect the environment; include both scientific and traditional knowledge; and help coordinate monitoring and reporting in the NWT.

Le Programme de surveillance des effets cumulatifs a pour but d’atteindre l’excellence en matière de gestion et de gérance environnementales par la surveillance et l’évaluation efficaces des effets cumulatifs dans les Territoires du Nord-Ouest (T.N.-O.). Ce programme de surveillance axé sur les T.N.-O. vise les objectifs qui suivent : 1. Offrir un soutien de haut niveau en matière de coordination et d’orientation des activités de surveillance et de recherche. 2. S’assurer que des données sur les connaissances réglementaires, scientifiques et traditionnelles ayant trait aux effets cumulatifs sont recueillies de manière efficace dans le cadre de partenariats améliorés. 3. Veiller à ce que les données sur les effets cumulatifs soient gérées, analysées et communiquées efficacement.
