As cyclone track is governed by a range of factors variations in weather conditions, wind pressure, sea surface temperature, air temperature, ocean currents, and the earth's rotational force - the coriolis force, it is a formidable task to combine these parameters and produce reliable and accurate forecasts.

Afin de prévoir l'intensité et la trajectoire des cyclones tropicaux, les centres météorologiques spécialisés utilisent donc des modèles mathématiques [...] Les modèles de prévision prévus pour définir les trajectoires et ceux pour définir leurs intensités ne sont pas les mêmes. Si une large variété de modèles de prévisions de trajectoire de cyclone est utilisée de manière opérationnelle pour chacun des bassins océaniques, il n'existe que peu de modèles de prévision d'intensité.
