Serum protein reagent D-Dimer (DD) is a specific degradation product of cross-linked fibrin that can be used as a marker of venous thromboembolism for diagnosing of deep venous thrombosis of the lower limbs and pulmonary embolism.

Les D-Dimères sont les fragments de dégradation spécifiques de la fibrine issue de la lyse par la plasmine. Cette enzyme protéolytique en dégradant ainsi le thrombus libère en fait des fragments de taille variable (X, Y, E, D) communs à la fibrine et au fibrinogène. Les fragments DD ou D-Dimères représentent donc l'étape ultime de dégradation de la fibrine.
