DEF

Anything the climber attaches himself to [in the snow] in order to keep from being pulled off the mountain should [he or] his partner ... fall.

CONT

A deadman anchor consists of any object buried in the snow. The most common deadman anchors, often called snow flukes, are commercially produced ...

OBS

In soft snow, several pickets, ice axes, skis, even ski poles and snowshoes can be buried to form "deadmen".

CONT

CONT
