English

Subject field(s)

  • Computer Programs and Programming
  • Air Transport
DEF

A value that is used if no other value is specified.

CONT

Computer programs often have prespecified values that they use unless they are given alternative values. These assumed values are called default values. Knowledge systems often store default values that are used in lieu of facts. For example, a medical program may assume that a patient has been exposed to some common organism unless the user asserts that such exposure can be ruled out.

OBS

default value: term officially approved by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

Record 2 - external organization data 1994-12-21

English

Subject field(s)
  • Calculating Procedures (Mathematics)
  • Radiation Protection
  • Compartment - Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission
CONT

In making calculations for the purposes of radiation protection, numerical values for parameters used in the calculations are selected. In some cases, data directly applicable to the set of conditions for which the calculations are to be made are unavailable. Therefore, the selection of the values for these parameters may be based on more general data available from the literature or other sources. These values may be referred to as "default values", that is, values used in default of those based on directly applicable data.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Procédés de calcul (Mathématiques)
  • Radioprotection
  • Tiroir - Commission canadienne de sûreté nucléaire
CONT
